About Our School

At United HapKiDo there are a variety of classes and times you may choose from. Please visit our schedule of classes for more information, and choose the classes that best fit your schedule.

We offer a safe, comfortable environment with certified trained black belt instructors always on hand to help you learn effective techniques that work. You will learn techniques that are applicable in many different situations.

All our instructors are USKMAF certified black belts, and are excellent role models and motivators. The quality of instruction at our school is very important to us. We are dedicated to the teaching of HapKiDo to men, women, and children in the Eldersburg area.

United HapKiDo is a proud member of the United States Korean Martial Arts Federation. Grand Master West heads the federation and holds a 9th degree black belt in HapKiDo. You can find out more about our federation and Mr. Shirey's instructor on the USKMAF website hapkido.com/uskmaf.

HapKiDo

United HapKiDo teaches the Korien Martial Art of HapKiDo. It includes a variety of arm and leg joint locks, weapon teachniques, throw, kick, hit, and nerve pressure techiques. HapKiDo is outstandingly suitable for self-defense. It can be learned both by men and women regardless of their size and age.

Some things you will learn in HapKiDo:

Techniques for empty hand vs. empty hand, empty hand vs weapon, and weapon vs weapon.
A wide variety of kicks during your training ranging from beginner to advanced.
Self-defense techniques to defend against things such as punches, kicks, grabs, headlocks, grappling, and more.
Counter-techniques, pressure points, the HapKiDo cane, short-stick and a variety of other advanced techniques.
You will have the option to attend seminars that expose you to other HapKiDo skills such as stick-fighting, military techniques, and much more.

HapKiDo is great for all skill levels.

Chris Shirey is a USKMAF Certified 5th degree black belt in HapKiDo, and also holds a black belt in Taekwondo.
